Go electric: Switch to a heat pump
What you get
PSE customers with active natural gas and electric service, heating their homes with a gas furnace or boiler can receive:
Heat pumps are a great option for homeowners looking to improve year-round comfort:
- Heat pumps are just as reliable as other heating systems and can use 2-3 times less energy.
- Heat pumps also offer cooling, humidity reduction, and increased air circulation and filtration.
- Depending on the model, you can control your heat pump with a remote, mobile app, or smart thermostat.
Inflation Reduction Act tax credits
Customers are encouraged to install heat pumps that meet the requirements for Inflation Reduction Act tax credits (up to $2,000). More information is listed in the table below.
Do I qualify?
Equipment requirements
- You must be a PSE gas and PSE electricity (dual fuel) customer who currently heats with natural gas.
- Ducted systems must be AHRI Certified with an HSPF2 of 8.1 or greater. Ductless systems must be AHRI Certified with an HSPF2 of 9.5 or greater.
- Customers with pre-existing heat pumps are not eligible.
- At least one indoor head must be installed in the main living area; bedroom only installations do not qualify. One rebate per single-family residence (4 units or less).
- Single-family new construction, multifamily (five or more attached units), accessory dwelling units (ADUs), and commercial accounts are not eligible.
- Existing gas furnaces or boilers must be removed/decommissioned and fully replaced by the new heat pump system to qualify. Dual fuel systems or systems with natural gas backup heat do not qualify for this incentive.
- Heat pumps must be installed to comply with all federal, state, and local code requirements.
- For assistance on how to see if your equipment qualifies, please contact an Energy Advisor or call 1-800-562-1482.
You may also qualify for a higher rebate if you live in a manufactured/mobile home. Learn more here.

---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Pre Install Equipment | Post Install Equipment | HSPF2 | SEER2 | EER2 | COP*@5°F | Capacity Ratio** |
Gas Furnace | AHRI Certified Ducted Heat Pump (Split/Pkg) | ≥ 8.1 | ≥ 15.2 | ≥ 10.0 | ≥ 1.75 | ≥ 70% at 5°F/47°F |
Gas Heating (furnaces or boilers) | AHRI Certified Ductless Heat Pump | ≥ 9.5 | ≥ 16.0 | ≥ 9.0 | ≥ 1.75 | ≥ 70% at 5°F/47°F |
SEER2, EER2, HSPF2, 5°F, 17°F, and 47°F values shall be measured per the US Department of Energy test procedure at Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 430, Subpart B, Appendix M1.
*Coefficient of Performance (COP) means the ratio of the average rate of space heating delivered to the average rate of electrical energy consumed by the heat pump. COP is a measurement of how efficiently a heat pump uses electricity to move heat.
**5°F, 17°F and 47°F are rated capacity data points as determined per the Appendix M1 tests. The capacity ratio measures the difference between the rated capacity at a given outdoor temperature and the rated capacity at another outdoor temperature. A higher capacity ratio means the heat pump will produce more heat at low temperatures. For any questions, please contact an Energy Advisor or call 1-800-562-1482.
